OPHK: Customs, Troops Unite To Seal Porous Borders in Borno, Yobe Amid Arms Smuggling
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) pledged deeper collaboration on Thursday to tackle Nigeria’s porous borders, a key enabler of arms trafficking and insecurity in Borno and Yobe States.
The NCS Area Controller for Borno and Yobe, Comptroller Abdullahi Mohammed Idris, visited OPHK Headquarters in Maiduguri Lieutenant Colonel Sani UBA , the task force’s Media Information Officer disclosed.
Idris highlighted NCS’s rollout of Geo-Partial Surveillance Technology across land and sea borders to boost monitoring and rapid response against smuggling.
“The visit strengthens synergy between the Armed Forces and NCS, seeking OPHK’s guidance to secure our vulnerable borders,” Idris said, thanking troops for aiding the NCS Staff College and personnel training.
OPHK Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, warned that porous borders fuel small arms proliferation, devastating border communities.
“No single agency can fix this alone—jointness is key under the Service Chiefs’ philosophy,” he stressed, praising NCS officers embedded with OPHK for their professionalism.
The meeting ended with souvenir exchanges and register signings, signaling firm commitment to multi-agency border fortification.
