Ladipo Market Shut Down Again: Lagos Cracks Whip On Waste Woes
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced the closure of Ladipo Market in Mushin over repeated environmental violations.
LASG sealed the popular automotive spare parts market on February 8, 2026, as part of an enforcement drive against improper waste disposal, street trading, filth, unhygienic premises, and unpaid waste bills.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab ordered the indefinite closure until traders meet sanitation standards, echoing a similar shutdown in September 2023 that was later lifted after partial compliance.
The action aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s focus on public health and environmental laws under the THEMES Plus agenda.

DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA gathered that infractions include reckless waste dumping, non-payment to Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and activities harming environmental hygiene.
LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, noted the closure enables impact assessments and remedial actions, signaling zero tolerance for violations.Ladipo, a major hub for used auto parts, has faced these issues repeatedly despite prior warnings.
A prior incident was in 2023, when the LASG closed the market for identical reasons—filth and waste mismanagement—but reopened it after stakeholders addressed requirements like waste bill payments and cleanup.
It remained shut briefly in October 2023 for incomplete fixes.This latest sealing highlights ongoing non-compliance.
