Six Dead, Four Rescued In Lagos Boat Collision On Channel Lagos

A passenger boat operated by Savvy Marine capsized on Tuesday evening, December 30, along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun water channel, claiming six lives and leaving four survivors hospitalized, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. while the vessel was traveling from Ilashe Beach House.

According to a statement,signed by Wuraola Alake Head, Public Affairs Unit, LASWA and Omowunmi Yussuff , Corporate Affairs unit, NIWA on Wednesday 31 December 2025, the Authorities received a distress call and swiftly deployed Search and Rescue (SAR) teams, coordinating with Marine Police and other responders.

As of the latest update, four passengers have been rescued and are receiving medical care at a nearby hospital.

Tragically, six others were recovered deceased at the scene. Operations continue to locate any remaining individuals onboard.

Preliminary investigations point to a collision with a submerged object as the likely cause, though full inquiries are ongoing. LASWA and NIWA pledged a thorough probe and public updates.

The authorities extended condolences to victims’ families and stressed safety compliance, including the “NO NIGHT TRAVEL” rule.
