The Akwa Ibom State Government is advancing water transportation with a new jetty at Nwaniba Waterfront, bringing the total under construction to three under Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
This initiative follows ongoing developments of state-of-the-art jetties in Oron and Calabar, equipped with modern facilities to serve residents, tourists, and visitors.
Dr. Anthony Luke, Commissioner for Transport, announced this during a radio interview on ARISE Update on Memories 96.5FM in Uyo.
He praised Governor Eno for bolstering waterway security with gunboats for surveillance, ensuring safe travel during the festive season.
The commissioner highlighted broader transport innovations, including biometric tricycle registration, profiling of delivery riders with branded gear and ID cards backed by guarantors (village heads or senior officials), and a coming “transport renaissance” in Q1 2026.
This includes 50 CNG buses for affordable land travel and two passenger ferries to boost maritime options. Luke called on residents to report suspicious road activities and avoid one-way driving for safety this Yuletide
