Merchant Navy Union Felicitates Minister’s IMO Triumph , Says Tinubu’s Agenda Boosts Maritime Diplomacy Win

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola has been congratulated by the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) on his election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category C Council seat for the 2026-2027 biennium.

Led by Chief Engineer Bob Joseph Yousuo, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliate group praised the minister and his team for this significant achievement, highlighting the vital role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renew Hope Agenda in supporting maritime reforms.

According to a statement signed by Comrade Aleakhue John Okpono, Secretary General of NMNOWTSSA, a copy made available to DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA, quoted Yousuo extending warm felicitations and assured the minister of the association’s continued support in advancing Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The ministry’s efforts in advancing maritime security, enhancing port efficiency, and promoting decarbonization policies have earned international acclaim, contributing to this successful election at the recent IMO General Assembly.

Chief Bob J. Yousuo commended the minister’s vision for a secure Gulf of Guinea and a strong maritime industry, emphasizing that Nigeria’s return to the IMO Council seat after 14 years marks a major milestone.

The Yousuo led association expressed optimism that this accomplishment will usher in a new era of maritime growth, prosperity, and international cooperation.

The statement reads in full “Our Association under the leadership of chief Bob Joseph Yousuo write to express her profound congratulations to the DG and the entire staff of NIMASA on Nigeria distinguished election into Category C in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) General Assembly, recently held in London, United Kingdom. This outstanding achievement underscores the agency’s unrelenting pursuit of excellence and its pivotal role in the global maritime community.
