The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has called for urgent regulation of Nigeria’s hospitality and tourism industry to ensure that it delivers full national and economic benefits.
Speaking during a courtesy visit from Dr. Abisoye Fagade, Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Osigwe stressed the importance of a legal framework to guide the sector.
He lauded NIHOTOUR’s efforts in transforming and professionalizing the industry and highlighted the potential of tourism and hospitality as major drivers of job creation, youth empowerment, and global competitiveness when properly regulated.

“Our hospitality and tourism industry must be regulated to yield maximum benefits for Nigeria. Proper standards, accountability, and consumer protection are key. The NBA is ready to collaborate with NIHOTOUR in providing the necessary legal backbone to achieve this,” Osigwe stated.
Dr. Fagade welcomed the NBA’s partnership and emphasized that strong legal principles are crucial to achieving sustainable growth and global credibility in the sector.
This visit marks the start of a collaboration between NIHOTOUR and the NBA to promote legal support, policy coordination, and professional training in tourism law and ethics, advancing NIHOTOUR’s goal of building a skilled and compliant workforce for Nigeria’s tourism industry.
