INDEPENDENCE DAY: Seafarers’ Union Salutes Nigerians , Urges FG To Prioritize Workers Welfare

Chief Bob Joseph Yousuo, National President of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, has extended warm congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

In his message, Chief Yousuo praised Nigeria’s enduring spirit, rich cultural diversity, and resilient determination that have sustained the nation’s democratic journey since 1960. He acknowledged the country’s growth over the years but stressed that challenges remain.

The Seafarers’ boss urged the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare of citizens as mandated by the constitution. He emphasized the need for improved security, quality education, and enhanced social amenities such as good roads, affordable electricity, and water supply.

Highlighting urgent concerns, the union president called for decisive government action against kidnapping, banditry impacting food production, and inflation. He also stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting the constitutional separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s abundant natural resources, Chief Yousuo lamented the country’s underdevelopment and urged the political class to put national interests above personal ambitions. He appealed to all Nigerians to think Nigeria first and work towards peace, justice, and national development.

Concluding his message, Chief Yousuo prayed for good governance and a brighter future. He called for unified efforts to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria where all citizens can thrive.
