EXCLUSIVE: MWUN Releases Branches Election Timetable As Dockworkers, Seafarers’ Polls To Hold Outside Lagos

The top hierarchy of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has released the dates and venues for the much-talked-about four branches elections, scheduled to commence on May 30, 2025.

The dates and venues were announced at the end of a meeting chaired by MWUN President-General Comrade Francis Bunu in Lagos on Wednesday.

DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA gathered that the controversial Dockworkers Branch election is scheduled to take place in Warri, Delta State, while the Seafarers’ Branch election will be held at Port Harcourt Port, Rivers State.

According to multiple sources, both the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Shipping Branch elections will be conducted in Lagos State.

Details revealed that the NPA election will be held on May 30, 2025, at the national secretariat in Lagos State, while the Shipping Branch election is expected to take place on June 16, 2025, also at the national secretariat.

The Dockworkers Branch election is slated for June 23, 2025, at a venue in Warri, Delta State.

Meanwhile, Port Harcourt has been selected as the venue for the Seamen and Water Transport Branch MWUN election, which is expected to hold on June 26, 2025.

Our correspondent was informed that Comrade Bunu urged contestants to refrain from campaigning at the port terminals, especially on the quayside, reassuring that the elections will be free and fair.
