NIS Inks MOU With Apapa LGA On Youths’ Capacity Building , As Enebeli Gets 2nd Term

 

The Nigerian Institute Shipping (NIS) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with management of Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of efforts to build capacity for youths within the community.

National President of NIS ,Dr. Martins Enebeli disclosed this on Monday during a virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) .

Enebeli stated that the foremost training institution would ensure that youths within the community of Apapa are empowered on maritime and other mode of transportation courses , irrespective of tribe , religion,culture , educational background, occupation etc..

“Training of Apapa youths will focus on port administration and freight forwarding. The training will commence in the first quarter of 2025.

“The collaboration with Apapa Local government is focused on skill acquisition in shipping and we are almost putting finishing touches with the arrangement which will benefit the institute and the community.”he noted.

The National President further revealed that the centre for training has been secured for learning pointing out that the training programme will commence by the first quarter of 2024.

“Collaboration is ongoing all arrangements has been concluded and as soon as the yuletide is over we will commence resumption.

On curriculum development, he added that”We are yet to conclude this arrangement but we are 86% there and we have developed a new curriculum and syllabus that will include road,rail , pipeline air and sea courses in this arrangement.”

Highlighting achievements recorded in the last two years of his administration, Enebeli reiterated that the institute has been approved to run as a monotechnic and the quest to becoming charter has passed second reading at the Senate

He noted that the NIS revaluation is at its concluding stage adding that all requirements needed for the approval has been provided by the institute.

According to him , professionally and academically ,Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority and Regional Maritime University have approved NIS Certificates of Competency , adding that the certification is evaluated in USA with equivalent to Bsc and HND.

 

Members and executives of NIS at the AGM unanimously reappointed Enebeli to run for second term in office as national President of NIS.

Enebeli who was inaugurated as President of the institute on the 3rd of March 2022 is expected to run for another two years following the NIS AGM members’ motion of adoption in terms of continuity in leadership.

National Secretary ; Dr. Taiwo Oshigbo – Financial Secretary ; Capt. Tajudeen Alao – National Treasurer; and Dr. Nnamdi Eronini – National Publicity Secretary.
