General Hospital Apapa Joins Counterparts To Celebrate 2024 World Breastfeeding Week

The Child Welfare and Immunisation Department of the General Hospital, Apapa, Lagos joined the rest of the world to mark the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week.

Breastfeeding variously known as chest feeding or nursing process where breast milk is used to feed a baby.

Breast milk maybe from the breast or pumped and fed to the infant.

According to a statement by Oputeh Michael,
Public Relations Officer, General Hospital Apapa, the year’s world breastfeeding week is tagged, ” Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding support for all.

The statement quoted the Apex Nurse and Deputy Director Nursing Osinowo Margaret Olufunmilayo, saying the benefits of breastfeeding to a baby is that breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants.

” It has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein and fat, everything the baby needs to grow.

The Apex Nurse said breast milk contains antibodies that helps baby fight off viruses and bacteria, and breastfeeding lowers baby’s risk of having allergies, babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first six months without any formula have fewer infections and respiratory illness.

The nursing officer in child welfare department, Boyo Christiana Toju, said mother’s breast milk changes constantly to meet babies needs and breast milk is available wherever and whenever the baby needs it, it is always at the temperature clean and free.
