POWA President Unveils Empowerment Scheme For Wives Of Officers Under Western Port Command

In her sustained resolve to encourage wives of police officers to develop entrepreneurial skills, the President of the Police Officer’s Wives Association (POWA), Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun has empowered wives of police officers attached to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command.

Represented by the POWA Chairperson of the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Mrs. Abiola Ishola, the initiative aligns with the vision of the POWA President to ensure that all police officers’ wives develop entrepreneurial skills that will be useful to them and their immediate families.

The Command got different types of equipment and gadgets made possible by the president.

According to a statement, in her welcome address, Ishola noted that upon her husband’s assumption of office, the POWA secretariat at the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command was inaugurated in November 2023.

She noted further that it was no longer fashionable for wives of police officers to sit down at home as full housewives without having a skill that will help them earn a living, hence the need for this empowerment scheme under the directive and approval of the POWA President.

On his part CP Ishola appreciated wives of police officers for their unwavering support to their husbands while noting that such support is important to encourage police officers to legitimately discharge their duties.

He also thanked the wife of the Inspector-General of Police for conceiving and executing the idea of empowering wives of police officers.

The programme had cultural displays from various ethnic groups to entertain guests and a short talk on the effects of drug abuse anchored by Chief Superintendent Of Narcotics, Bola Ojeleye, from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Equipment such as grinding machines, hair driers, sewing machines, and deep freezers were distributed to POWA members.
