TOURISM :  Commissioner Tasks LAGFERRY Mgt On Yuletide Campaign To Attract Patronage

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has reiterated the Lagos State Government’s (LASG) commitment to improving water transportation.

He made the statement during a scheduled visit to Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) operational base at Mile 2 Terminal.

He urged the agency to create more awareness and ensure enough publicity of its operations especially as the yuletide season is here by highlighting on the activities and social events that can take place on it’s barge – MV Adimu Orisa.

While promising to support LAGFERRY in achieving its mandate of ferrying 30% of Lagosians via the waterways, Osiyemi commended the management of the agency and expressed delight at the E-fleet Surveillance System, describing it as a game-changer that would boost passenger’s confidence by ensuring their safety as the boats are monitored in real time.

“I want to commend you for this initiative. This would give passengers more confidence and assurance of safety knowing they are being  monitored in real time” he stated.

The Managing Director, LAGFERRY, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun while reeling out the numerous achievements and activities of the agency, assured the Commissioner of strong support to ensure he succeeds and achieve his vision for the transportation sector in the state.

Balogun appreciated Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his commitment to achieving the multi-modal transport system and his unprecedented investments in water transportation.

Recall that the Commissioner of Transportation , Lagos paid a courtesy visit to LASWA on Thursday 12th October,

During the visit, the Commissioner expressed his appreciation for LASWA’s efforts to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance water transportation in Lagos.

The General Manager highlighted the various initiatives implemented by LASWA such as the introduction of modern ferries, the expansion of terminal facilities, and the promotion of safety measures.

Both parties exchanged ideas on ways to further improve water transportation, and infrastructures, boost passenger confidence, and encourage more residents to utilize the waterways as an alternative mode of travel. They also discussed upcoming projects including the development of new routes and the integration of technology for better efficiency and convenience.

The fruitful discussions concluded with a shared vision of a more sustainable and resilient transportation system in Lagos where waterways play a prominent role.
