VANDALISATION: Fear Grips Residents Of  Ikotun As PMS Litters Major Roads, Market, Canal

There are palpable tension and apprehension Friday morning ,as residents of Ikotun , a suburb under Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos woke up to witness petroleum products taken over some major roads, canal and the central market.

 

Commercial activities have been suspended due to the stench and flow of  petroleum products.

 

The popular BRT terminal and market have been shutdown over the spillage, even as some sections of the road have been barricaded in furtherance to discouraging commuters from accessing .

Eyewitness account told our correspondent that the market and linking canal in the area were all enveloped with the spillage ,while traders were not allowed to access their shops.

Sources also disclosed that the vandalisation of pipelines must have occurred which in turn led to  spillage along the roads,markets and canal.

 

As at the time of filing this report there was no security agencies of the federal and state government to contain the life threatening situation.

 

Recall that residents of the community had raised the alarm over vandalisation of pipelines installation within the Ikotun community, even as traditional rulers have called on the government at all levels to deploy security personnel to monitor and protect such assets.

Our correspondent also gather that at the canal some persons were spotted scooping the content into gallons while others were afraid to move freely within the affected areas.
