Community Leaders, Monarch Raise Alarm Over Pipeline Vandalisation In Ikotun

The Irebami Unity Community Development Association (CDA) , Ikotun has raised the alarm over the indiscriminate establishment of gas plants and petrol stations  within the residential area,calling on the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) and state government to take a firm decision on the need to halt the proliferation of such businesses in the community.

 

The community leaders have also expressed worries over the effects of pipeline vandalisation within the community ,calling on authorities to be proactive in finding lasting solution to the menace and looming danger inherent in the vicinity.

 

Irebami Unity  CDA in Ikotun is under Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State and for decades has decried  decay in social amenities, coupled with   government of all levels  negligence and abandonment of the community.

 

Chairman of the community , Prince Noah Abiola, who spoke with DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA on the sideline of the “7th Annual Constituency Stakeholders Town Hall  Meeting”, held on Thursday in Lagos, also expressed concerns over vandalisation of pipelines installation in the community by yet to be identified group.

 

He pointed out that there is no single motorable road and proper drainage channel in the entire community, stressing that “Abiola Adeyemi Street which is a principal street and major road linking Governor Road to Igando Road and also serving as a bypass to LASU – Ojo Expressway through Adedokun Adekola Avenue is in a complete state of disrepair and impassible for decades.”

 

Abiola reiterated that residents of the community live in absolute fear and panic over looming  explosion that may lead to collateral damage of lives and properties  , saying that LSHA and other relevant authorities should investigate the situation, thus put in place proactive measures to secure the facilities from further damage and danger.

 

Advising the government at all levels about the deplorable situation of the community, the chairman, stressed that ” We don’t have roads in our communities ,either do we have proper drainage system yet Alimosho Local Government Area of the state is the biggest in Lagos State.

 

Speaking further, Abiola maintained that issues surrounding electricity distribution was a major setback that must be tackled by the government and lawmakers because according to him, the pre paid meters distribution has failed to yield positive results in the sustainability of businesses in the community and neighbouring  communities as well.

 

He also urged the lawmakers to engage the youths in the community as part of efforts to build capacity in furtherance to reduce challenges of insecurity in the vicinity and state in particular.

 

 

On his part , Comrade Raheem Akeem , Secretary Governor Road CDA, decried the plights of indiscriminate establishment of petrol filling stations & gas plants within the residential area.

 

Akeem said previous petitions had been written to the Lagos State House of Assembly on the life threatening matter.

 

A traditional ruler , Kabiyesi Onikotutn had earlier appealed for more attention on pipeline protection security within the community.

 

He stressed the need for more action to secure properties and lives around this facility and vicinity.

 

The Monarch also urged residents of Ijedodo-Ijegemo-Abule Ado to accept compensation and  withdraw court case to allow for road construction that would enhance development in that area.

 

Kabiyesi had also seek the support of the lawmaker  for the upgrade of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and with a strong appeal not to relocate the institution  from present location.

 

A stakeholder within the community, Comrade Lanre Ojo also faulted the organisers of the TownHall meeting held by the lawmaker.

 

Ojo maintained that the meeting should have been held at the local council’s secretariat and not in an hotel.

 

He lampooned the lawmaker for failing to invite community stakeholders in furtherance to expressed their grievance on setbacks within the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

 

 

Earlier, Honourable Kehinde Joseph representing Alimosho constituency 02 of the Lagos State House of Assembly who was the Chief Host of the 7th Annual Constituency Stakeholders Town Hall  Meeting,  said the  theme of the event was Increasing Wave of Drug Abuse; A threat to  nation building.

 

 

 

The chief host who had welcomed all members of the community present,  explained the idea behind the sitting as a way to giving report of his stewardship to the people in the last one year, to interact with the electorates and hear there views/ observations/ challenges and suggestions to enhance productive governance.

 

The Honourable stated that some of the government projects currently ongoing in the constituency, of particular concern was the dredging of canals from Governors’ road by Anisere Street- El-Bethel to Potoku canal ; Potoku to Akesan; Abaranje to Akesan; and Joachim  church in Ijagemo

 

 

The lawmaker  assured the  that Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education  will not be relocated from the present location considering the financial implications, even as  he added that moves are ongoing to upgrade the school to University of Education.

 

He further read some of the request submitted, with a promise to work on them by referring it to appropriate quarters for urgent action.
