SUGAR PRODUCTION: Kwara Govt Urges FG To Checkmate Overdependence Of Importation

The National Assembly has been urged to put laws in place to improve the production of basic needs of the country as well as checkmate Nigeria’s overdependence on imported goods.

 

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, made the appeal today while receiving the House of Representatives Committee on Industry and members of the National Sugar Development Council in his office.

 

This was contained in a statement by Modupe Joel, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, noted that Kwara state is blessed with fertile soil and mineral resources that can attract foreign and local investors.

AbdulRazaq assured that all issues raised by the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) would be fully resolved, pledging the state government’s cooperation with the sugar industry.

 

Speaking earlier, the chairman House Committee on Industry, Dr Enitan Dolapo Badru, said the committee is in Kwara to perform some oversight functions.

 

He emphasised the critical role Kwara state is playing in sugar production in Nigeria.

 

In his address, the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Mr Zacch Adedeji, explained that when sugar plants in Kwara states commence, the state internally generated revenue will rise significantly with over 50,000 employment opportunities created, among other benefits.
