LASG Begins Construction Of Abaranje, Akesan-Obadore Roads, Seeks Residents Cooperation

The Lagos State Government has called for the cooperation of residents as it commenced the construction of three roads, namely Abeje Street in Ifelodun Local Council Development Areas, Abaranje and Akesan-Obadore Roads in Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area of the State.

 

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meetings , the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako said that the projects were significant indicators of a progressive leap towards making life more meaningful and abundant for the people of Lagos State.

 

He said that the present administration, in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, has made remarkable success in the area of infrastructural renewal as evident in the recent commissioning of many projects as well as the commencement of more construction works in demonstration of the State Government’s determination to upscale social infrastructure towards making Lagos a Smart City.

 

“The present administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been unrelenting in upgrading road infrastructure for the socio-economic development of Lagos State”, he said.

 

Salako emphasised that the meeting was held to dialogue with beneficiaries of the road projects and get their inputs, as an indication that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration is an inclusive government.

 

He explained that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has carried out the necessary process regarding the Right of Way, stressing that the removal of structures to pave way for the road projects, where necessary, would be strictly done as a matter of necessity and subject to payment of compensation.

 

The Commissioner, therefore, enjoined members of the affected and adjoining communities to support the project, including staff of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, who would be serving the statutory notices and delivering the Right of Way to berth improved transportation and interconnectivity within the State.

 

On her part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, assured that efforts would be geared towards the timely completion of the project whilst the roads would be built with durable materials.

 

She urged the people to embrace the projects so as to enjoy benefits such as de-flooding, enhanced interconnectivity, provision of direct and indirect employment and boost in property value in the vicinity.

 

Also joining the call on the people to take ownership of the road projects were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, a member of the Lagos State House Assembly, representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun I, Mr. Lukman Olumoh and the Chairman Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, Mr. Morenike Adeshina-Williams.

 

Others at the meeting were Commissioner III, Audit Service Commission, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe and Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Rotimi Thomas as well as the General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Authority (LASURA), Ms. Ajibike Shomade.
