LASG To Divert Traffic Along Anthony For Rehabilitation Works, Closes Ojota Underpass

The Lagos State Government has announced that there will be a diversion of traffic from the Main Carriageway inbound Anthony from Monday, 3rd of May 2021, for a period of four weeks as part of the ongoing reconstruction on Ikorodu Road.

 

A release signed by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, stated that the diversion was necessary in view of the need to address the worsening state of the access road at the Independence Tunnel, Maryland.

 

He explained that the road needs to be fixed urgently to prevent further deterioration of the section, especially with the expected rainfall in the coming season, adding that the repairs will minimise the congestion frequently experienced by motorists along the corridor.

 

The Commissioner advised motorists coming from Ibadan-Lagos Expressway to go through Oworonshoki to connect Gbagada and descend the ramp at Anthony to access Ikorodu Road during the repair works.

 

He also disclosed that the recently improved Maryland Junction will also be opened temporarily during the construction period to accommodate traffic coming from the Ojota axis and Ikorodu, stressing that a temporary traffic light will be installed to manage the influx of vehicles that will ply the flyover.

 

His words: “Alternatively, motorists will be diverted to a counterflow on the Ojota bound lane during peak hours to minimise the inconveniences during the course of the repairs. Road users coming from Ikeja and inbound Surulere are advised to use Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way to link Maryland and access Ikorodu road inbound Surulere”.

 

Oladeinde maintained that the officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) would be in the axis to direct traffic, adding that traffic signs and signals will be also be strategically placed in the area to guide vehicular movement during the stipulated period.

 

He, however, revealed that a trial run of the traffic management system would commence on Tuesday, 27th April, 2021, to test the aforementioned traffic diversion plans ahead of the set date and make necessary adjustments where necessary.

 

The Commissioner appealed to motorists plying the corridor to endure the likely inconvenience that may be occasioned during the period, as the project is aimed at finding a lasting solution to traffic congestion in the axis in line with the efficient traffic management and transportation policy of the State Government.

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, in continuation of the ongoing reconstruction works on Ketu – Mile 12 section of Lagos/Ikorodu Road, the Lagos State Government will be diverting traffic from Ojota Underpass to Demurin Junction on the Ikorodu corridor from Monday, 26th April, 2021 for a period of four weeks.

 

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the diversion became necessary to allow the contractor handling the project to commence construction works on the service lane inward Ikorodu from Ojota Underpass to Demurin Junction.

 

Oladeinde revealed that this will necessitate the temporary closure of access routes to Ketu during the repair works, stressing that the section of the road was vital to the quick completion of the rehabilitation that has been ongoing on Ikorodu Road for the past year.

 

He hinted that different alternative routes have been suggested for road users during the period, while noting that the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be available to direct traffic to ease vehicular movement.

 

According to him “Motorists coming from Iyana Oworonshoki axis inward Ketu, Mile 12 and Ikorodu will be diverted to Alapere to make an exit through Ajelogo Street and Mile 12 Underbridge, or to use the Cloverleaf Ramp to descend into Maryland bound lane to access the ramp back to the bridge and take another descent into the Ketu-bound main carriageway”.

 

“Traffic heading towards Ketu, Mile 12 and Ikorodu from Maryland/Ojota axis will be able to access the main carriageway inward Ikorodu, while vehicles heading towards the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway will equally have access to the exit ramp to reach their desired destinations”, he added.

 

While imploring motorists to use the exit ramp and make a U-turn at 7UP to get to the second exit on Ojota Bridge, Oladeinde appealed to residents of the State, especially motorists plying the corridor, to support the ongoing project which is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the congestion in the metropolis.
