Obiagu/Isiagu Crisis: Abia Govt Assures Lasting Solution To Boundary Dispute

The Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has assured the people of Lekwesi Obiagu of lasting solution to the lingering boundary crisis.

Sir Oko Chukwu gave the assurance when he visited the Lekwesi Obiagu Community of Umunneochi LGA, following the invasion and attack on their community by youths of Amata- lsiagu in Ebonyi State recently.

The Deputy Governor further disclosed that government will ensure that they protect every inch of its territory in line with their fundermental responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of its citizens.

He commended the traditional Ruler of Obiagu Autonomous Community, Sir Tim Nwokoro and his people for exhibiting high level of patience by restraining their youths from retaliating the attack on them by their Amata-lsiagu neighbours and enjoined them to continue to maintain peace as nothing is gained in an atmosphere of rancour and violence.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli who described as unfortunate the ugly experiences they usually encounter from their supposed brothers and neighbours over land disputes, implored the National Boundary Commission to do the needful as soon as possible while promising to always monitor happenings in the area especially now that they are in the peak of the farming season.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Umunneochi LGA, Chief Mathew Ibeh pointed out that the LGA having boundaries with four States makes it vulnerable to attacks from their neighbours and appealed to the Deputy Governor as Chairman of the State Boundary Committee to prevail on the National Boundary Commission to complete the final demarcation of their boundaries with Ebonyi State.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Sir Chris Nwanevu, members of the State Boundary Committee and Security personnel accompanied the Deputy Governor on the visit.
