Apapa Customs Deepens Navy Ties To Boost Maritime Security
Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed strong commitments to deepen collaboration with the Nigeria Navy towards ensuring effective maritime security.
Comptroller Oshoba made the assertion during his visit to Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, Flag Officer Commanding , Western Naval Command, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The courtesy call aimed to strengthen operational ties, aligning with Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD’s three key policy thrusts: Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation.
According to a statement by CSC Isah Sulaiman, Public Relations Officer for Apapa Area Command of Customs , who shared details in a statement on Thursday to newsmen, quoted Comptroller Oshoba consolidating past successes to enhance the Apapa-Navy relationship.
On collaboration, he stressed that modern border management demands joint efforts, pointing out that”While Customs excels in trade facilitation and revenue generation, we also handle vital security roles. We must partner with the military, the cornerstone of security.”
Highlighting innovation, he said it means “doing things differently for better results,” including stronger inter-agency cooperation. He thanked the Navy for securing Nigeria’s waters—”No vessel enters without safe seas”—and requested ongoing support along the Apapa port corridor for smooth cargo flow.
Responding, Rear Admiral Mustapha praised the enduring partnership, noting: “Port security thrives on inter-agency coordination. Without security, there’s no development.”
He lauded Customs’ achievements under CGC Adeniyi in curbing revenue leakages and exceeding targets, adding: “Keep it up; more revenue means better infrastructure and social safety nets.”He pledged enhanced cooperation to safeguard the maritime domain and drive national economic growth.
