2025 Boro Day: Bayelsa Govt Set To Introduce Izon Language Department In NDU

 

Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa state has assured that a department of Izon language will be created in the state owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa state.

The Governor stated this during the 2025 edition of the Boro Day celebration and wreath laying ceremony at Heroes Park Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

His words, “one of the major policies of this administration from inception was the introduction of izon language in our primary and secondary schools and employment of Izon language teachers for its implementation. We will take this further by establishing Department of Izon language in the Niger Delta University.”

Gov. Diri also urged Ijaws to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, justice and peace that the foremost Ijaw freedom fighter embodied.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence EWhrudjakpo, Member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Hon. Fed Agbedi, Speaker of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the Secretary to the Government of Bayelsa state, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Chief of Staff Government, Dr. Peter Akpe, the President of the Ijaw National Congress, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, IYC President, Comrade Jonathan Lokpobiri, HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo, HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff and other top government functionaries.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bayelsa State, on Friday, graced the 7th Combined Convocation of the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, in Southern Ijaw LGA of the State.

Governor Diri took the opportunity to pay tributes to the first Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha for the foresight and courage in establishing the institution while urging the graduates to be worthy ambassadors of the school.

The Governor who directed the commissioner for works and infrastructure to immediately set out the financial requirement for construction of the road leading to the present NDU Convocation arena also performed the groundbreaking for a new convocation arena and the construction of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, Speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, some members of the State House of Assembly, Chief of Staff Government House, Yenagoa, Dr. Peter Akpe, Chairman, Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Bubaraye Dakolo and other top government officials
