The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has called on members not to par-take in the October 1st planned nationwide protest by unknown individuals.
Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, President General of MWUN disclosed in a statement on Monday.
Adeyanju stated that the Union and its members do not take industrial action directive that do not emanate from the MWUN recognised organ such as the Central Working Committee (CWC) adding that the planned October 1st, 2024 protest is not called by the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC affiliate CWC ,hence not oblige to participate.”
“As a Union comprising of essential service provider and critical economic actors, our members are committed to delivering uninterrupted services, as demonstrated during the COVID 19 lockdown when members worked tirelessly despite restrictive measures.
“Consequently, MWUN has stated clearly that while the union do not begrudge any Nigerian citizens his or her right to peacefully assemble and expression of themselves, the Union and its members do not take industrial action directive that do not emanate from the Union recognised organ such as the Central Working Committee (CWC).
“The planned October 1st, 2024 protest is not called by the Unions CWC and we are therefore not oblige to participate.”
