INSECURITY: Ekiti State Govt Unveils 404 Newly Recruit  Amotekun Personnel

Ekiti State strengthens grassroots security by recruiting 404 new Amotekun, Agro-Marshal, and Anti-grazing Corps personnel. This move underscores Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s sustained commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting property, and enhancing community peace.

The operatives were officially inducted during a passing-out parade held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ise-Ekiti.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), who represented Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, described the governor’s investment in community-based security outfits as a strategic move to curb crime, safeguard lives and property, protect agricultural assets, and enhance food security across Ekiti State.

“The recruitment and training of these operatives form part of a broader effort to overhaul the state’s security architecture by involving grassroots participation. This will complement the operations of conventional security agencies,” he said.

Ogundana stressed the importance of creating a peaceful and secure environment to enable businesses to thrive and attract investment.

“A lot of resources have been committed to making Ekiti one of the safest states in Nigeria. I am proud to say that Ekiti remains the safest state today,” he added.

The selection process for the newly inducted operatives began with interviews at the local government level. Successful candidates underwent a rigorous three-week training programme facilitated by officers of the Nigerian Army, with support from other security agencies.

The training included tactical operations, physical drills, martial arts, weapon handling, and rules of engagement.

Ogundana congratulated the operatives on completing their training and charged them to carry out their duties with discipline and integrity. “Let your conscience guide your actions. You are here to protect, not to intimidate the people.

“You will be deployed to various strategic locations across the state, and your conduct must reflect the trust the government and people have placed in you,” he said.

He also disclosed that the state government had provided vehicles and communication equipment to ensure rapid response to threats and emergencies.
