LASG Awards Scholarship To Best WASSCE Students

The Lagos State Government has awarded university scholarships to two exceptional students, Favour Anuoluwapo and Taiwo Muhammed for emerging best students with Eight A1’s and Seven A1’s respectively at the Y2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations, just as it played host to students who emerged champions at various National and International Science competitions.

 

Addressing the students at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, Secretariat, Alausa, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, expressed joy at the great feat achieved by the students in various National and International Competitions, stating that it is a testament to the improved quality of education system in Lagos State.

 

Mrs. Adefisayo commended the various efforts of the students, stressing that one of the awardees, Olamide Marvelous, who represented the State at the African Leadership Academy competition, an international competition, emerged as the “Best Critical Thinker”.

She said: “This particular student has continued to make us proud as a State and our investment as a government in the education sector is no doubt yielding positive results”.

 

According to her, the State Government has continued to introduce various initiatives and innovations towards improving the educational system and some of the programmes have enhanced teaching and learning outcomes in schools.

Mrs. Adefisayo appreciated the Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for approving scholarships for Favour Anuoluwapo and Taiwo Muhammed who emerged best at the WASSCE, acknowledging the present administration’s continuous provision of school infrastructure for the academic success of all students in the State.

While congratulating all the students, the Commissioner advised them to remain focused, avoid distractions and remain committed to their studies, imploring their parents not to relent in monitoring their children, guiding them, providing enough time and loving them.

 

Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, stated that the students did exceptionally well in science, innovation and general competitions.

 

He disclosed that in Y2020 and Y2021 at the Stockholm Junior Water Competition, Garuba Mustapha of Abibat Mogaji Millennium Senior Secondary School; Ajasa Kehinde Timilehin and Obikoya Ayomide of Jakande Estate Comprehensive Senior College came first at the event, while the duo of Adeleye Wonder and Adewusi Promise, students of Marve Grace Schools, clinched the second position in the same competition.

“Vetland Senior Grammar School representatives, Ebere Divine and Olajide Akorede as well as Seidu Samuel of Brainfield College represented the State at the Y2021 National Institute of Physics Competition and clinched the first position.

 

“While Oladipupo Marvelous of Government Technical College, Agindigbi, was adjudged the “Best Critical Thinker” at the Y2021 African Leadership Academy Competition, Seidu Samuel of Brainfield College also emerged second in the Y2021 Oluwole Awokoya Chemistry Competition”, the Permanent Secretary asserted.
