Dr Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Etiki State has set up machinery for the dethronement of the 16 “Pelupelu” (Paramount) traditional rulers in the State.

The 16 traditional rulers in the State, the Pelupelu Obas, had sued Governor Fayemi, challenging his decision for appointing Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, as chairman of the State Traditional Council.

The monarchs, in the suit with registration number HAD/76/2019, filed before an Ado Ekiti High Court, are seeking nullification of the appointment, saying the governor’s action of picking someone outside the 16 obas as chairman was “a violation of the Ekiti State Chieftaincy Law.”

Just like his counterpart in Kano State, Governor Ganduje, recalled the rift between Sanusi Lamido with Ganduje started just like this before he was accused of nonchalant attitude towards attending State meetings with the governor.

However, from our source, Gov. Fayemi had already stopped payments of salaries due to 16 Obas from the local governments.
