The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday , stated that it spent over N35 million to execute legal services as against the experiences encountered during the 2019 elections in Bauchi State.
Chairman of the party Dr. Boniface Aniebonam who disclosed this at a press briefing to celebrate the feats achieved by the party, also reiterated that the NNPP is not an opposition party to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rather a party that offers hope to the people.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC recently deregistered a total of 74 political parties in the country.
Aniebonam noted that the Bauchi State experience was a lesson learnt by the party adding that it has become a message to strategic thinkers like members of the party.
“When the incident of Bauchi State occurred ; somebody who never contested for election was declared winner in the senatorial seat, and so also the house of reps, we felt is a lesson learnt but be that as it may; when the going gets tough the tough people get going and we decide to change our tactic.
“We decided that in any other elections that kind of rigging especially where we know we have the opportunity and strength to win an elective positions will not occur again.”
The NNPP chairman who doubles as the founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) ,called on maritime stakeholders to join hands and build the political party for the betterment of the industry and the nation in general.
While, emphasising on the rule of engagement by Nigerians, the Party Chairman said :”I make bold to stand before you today to say that we started from “little beginning” which has become what is known as NNPP today.
“Let me, at this juncture tell you that the journey has not been that easy. It has taken a lot of sacrifice to get to where we are today because all manner of obstacles were put on our way.
“Some natural, others man-made. But in line with our determination right from the
beginning, we used those obstacles as stepping stones which helped in launching us higher.
“The task or gathering men and
Women that will drive the dream almost left our hands burnt”.
“Many of them later showed that they didn’t share our dream of a New Nigeria where politics Will be a call to service and to serve
and not a call to be served.
” Expectedly, they all dropped by the
way side .As we were getting out of the shock, came a legislation stopping the payment of subvention to parties .And you ask yourself, how much was the subvention?
“To maintain offices in at least 2/3 of the 36 State and Abuja cost a fortune. As a result of the legislation stopping subvention to parties, many political parties died.
“But because our determination, we in NNPP trudged on. We saw the trend as one of the antics to stop the Lords purpose
for Nigeria. But we have resolved that the will of God shall prevail.
“As if that was not enough, legislation came with the sole aim of constricting the political space to shut out those who have decided to change the way politics is being played in Nigeria, which the NNPP stands for.
“Interestingly, this is the legislation which has in one fell swoop truncated the existence of about 74 political parties through the recent delisting of parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is instructive to say here that when
28 political parties were first deregistered in 2012 our great party survived.
“Once again, the hammer could not come near our party this time around, NNPP because we worked hard to do what the law expected us to do . In other words, we were and still compliant with INEC guidelines on how parties should be run.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate this NNPP. That inspite of all these hurdles, the party that offers the hope of a New Nigeria to our people. Having come this far, the next target is where do we go from here.
“‘Again to look ahead, we need to cast a look back into the recent past. We cannot
discuss the past in full without mentioning our exploits in the last
General Elections.
” Without sounding immodest, NNPP is one of the best performing party in Nigeria as of today. The Party fielded candidates in most of the Stats of the Federation in the 2019
election.
